Spinal Cord Injury Cases
Spinal Cord Injury Cases
Every year thousands of spinal cord injuries are sustained by individuals. These injuries cause significant work changes that reduce a person’s ability to earn a living and to continue with their pre-accident lifestyle. Living with a spinal cord injury is a significant challenge both physically and emotionally.
Numerous spinal cord injuries occur in automobile, trucking, cycle, construction, falls and sports activities.
There are a series of nerves which run throughout the backbone and control movement and feeling throughout the entire body. Injury to these nerves can cause pain, loss of movement and loss of feeling below the damaged area.
Symptoms of spinal cord injury may include pain, numbness, tingling, lack of coordination, and diminished bladder control. Severe types of trauma which causes the spinal cord to be compressed, cut or misdirected usually causes a spinal cord injury.
If the spinal cord is totally severed there is no known cure. If the spinal cord is not totally severed, the extent of damage will determine the victim’s amount of recovery.
Quadriplegia is a spinal cord injury that impairs a person from the neck down and which also causes a person’s ability to breathe, and paralysis his arms, legs and torso. If the injured spine causes weakness and loss of feeling or mobility only in the lower part of the body and legs, that is called paraplegia.
